In other words, that the "answers" come from within herself, and the card-reading process is simply the way her unconscious mind articulates the responses to her conscious mind (if I understand him correctly). Similarly, in another work Heinlein says our conscious thoughts are really like the display window in a calculator -- they show the final results of complex processes going on "underneath."
