You've precisely hit it on the nail for me. I find most fight scenes so dull (and usually confusing) that I skim through them to find out who wins and get on with the "real story." OTOH, I must admit that I may skim a routine and too-long sex scene for the same motive (to "get back to the story") even though I write sex scenes myself.
