We don't want just 'Hot Nookie in Outer Space' and we don't want just 'Re-calibate the Hyperspace Field Coils.' We want a strong story somewhere between.

As a writer, I don't think I'm ready for straight SFR. Most of my science fiction stories refuse to center on just one couple's love story. I've tried to make them, but they just won't. I do have a few that do, but I'm really not interested in polishing them up right now.

Also, I can't seem to adhere to the 'Happily Ever After' edict I can do an HEA for the secondary plot, but not the main one. Guess I just haven't matured to that point yet.
;)Kimber Lihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03982239712083114488noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26974492.post-45217507224821430362007-09-27T16:41:00.000-04:002007-09-27T16:41:00.000-04:00Great post!May I add that one element I also prefe...Great post!

May I add that one element I also prefer in my SFR is that there is a good balance between the speculative and romantic aspects in the story. For an SFR to work as its own subgenre, neither the romance nor the SF parts should overrun the other. Not easy to do, I imagine.

I'm reading an SF book right now, one with romantic elements. The author integrates it well, but if the romance weren't there, I wouldn't miss it. I'm not hugely disappointed because the story is good, but I love a more dominant romance in my SF. I hope to see more books published that really allow the romance to unfold while not giving short thrift to the overall story/world building elements.

HeatherAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
