It happens in novel editing after you get paid -- the COMPANY changes something or a new editor comes on, and they want to change the imprint's formula and wham, you have to make major changes in your novel. So finding good editors and a good company is so valuable, you have to be willing to go the extra mile for them.

Companies expect loyalty from writers -- but writers never get loyalty from companies unless their books sell the best of the company's whole line.Jacqueline Lichtenberghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01613040740264804278noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-26974492.post-61514258233573824252016-07-20T12:56:43.389-04:002016-07-20T12:56:43.389-04:00"Fussy Editor 73" reminds me of a short ..."Fussy Editor 73" reminds me of a short article on the Marriage Encounter program I once wrote for a small local magazine, one of those freebie publications every community has. The editor had me re-work it two or three times (not for lack of quality, but because he couldn't pin down the amount and type of content he wanted), and at the end of this frustrating process, I got paid a whole $25. I don't mind writing for a token payment and exposure, but not if the job involves multiple rewrites for trivial reasons. In contrast, the online fantasy magazine LORELEI SIGNAL doesn't pay much, but they work very smoothly with authors and publish good fiction, so I'm happy to keep submitting to them. (I have a story in the current issue.):

http://www.loreleisignal.comMargaret Carterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08293021955480708191noreply@blogger.com
